Honestly, I wish this book wasn’t a novella – it was so good, interesting, fast-paced and I could not put it down. The descriptions of the convent and the island upon which it sits were beautiful and creepy enough to send shivers down my spine.

Durra’s description as a Moor threw me for a minute and it was the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves that brought it back to me. I know why my brain made that connection but I haven’t watched that movie in YEARS. Durra’s internal struggles with her lot in life are wrenching and what she has endured has forged her into an incredibly strong person. I wasn’t overly fond of Emily – she’s a little unthinkingly brash and willing to guilt and/or bully others into her exploits. Leida fell a little flat for me even though she was kind and knowledgeable – she lacked Durra’s strength and Emily’s sass.

Even though this book is fantasy with supernatural beings I would also consider it a good reminder of inclusivity, sisterhood, and defying the odds. There were a few twists in this book that I didn’t expect – brought forth from details that I didn’t think were overly important to the plot. I loved the convent, the nuns of St. Gertrude and the patron saints love of cats. These ladies are definitely my kind of people – I would pretty at home living amongst them on the haunting island.

I would consider this book the older end of the young adult genre – I’ve read some books in that genre that contained more shocking content than this one. Sisters of the Moon is a book that I would highly recommend to readers who enjoy young adult, adult, paranormal/supernatural, and fantasy titles. This is my first Alexandrea Weis book and I am definitely going to look through her other titles after reading this one. I would especially like to thank Xpresso Book Tours, Vesuvian Books, and Alexandrea Weis for the opportunity to read this novella (please continue this story) – all opinions are my own. ( )
