Picking up this book, I was blind to who James Howe was. As I read this book I became informed and very intrested of James Howe's life and the process of him becoming a writer. Howe gave a great insight on his personal life and how the characters in his books refered to his actual life. ( )

Although I loved reading about James and his everyday life, I found the book kind of boring and cheesy compared to the amazing books I've read by him. I would love to find a more recent book about his life and any adversity he has faced since writing books that have challenged "social norms". ( )

Howe shares his past and current life, and describes how the writing process works for him. I love reading these "meet the author" books since we get to take a peek inside their lives, and see old family photos of them. It makes it more on a special, reading experience. I would use this book with a Language Arts lesson. I could even incorporate with an author study lesson. ( )

(non fiction, autobiography) This book is another installment in the "Meet the Author" series. I have four total in this library. I really like this serie of books because it is an easy read, yet full of information, particularly on the artistic process of writing and illustrating. I think it would be an encouraging read to a youngster who was contemplating a career in this field. I also enjoyed learning how James Howe based some of his book characters on himself. That is one of the pleasures of this book series, is finding out little tidbits of information on the writer, poet or artist that in another book you may have to wade through several chapters to get to.
