"In the latest riveting thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong, the paranoia increases - along with the stakes - as the town of Rockton tries to solve the latest mystery at their door. Detective Casey Duncan has noticed fewer and fewer residents coming in to the hidden town of Rockton, and no extensions being granted. Her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, presumes it's the natural flux of things, but Casey's not so sure. It seems like something bigger is happening in the small town they call home. When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, someone who seems to have come to the Yukon for a wilderness vacation but instead is now fighting for her life, it's all hands on deck. What - or who - attacked this woman, and why? With the woman unconscious, and no leads, Casey and Eric don't know where the threat is coming from. Plus, the residents of their deeply secretive town are uneasy with this stranger in their midst. Everyone in Rockton wants this mystery solved - and fast"--… (más)

Another great addition to the Rockton series. I’m pretty sure this book had every kind of threat from hostiles to settlers, outsiders, council, and nature. Basically, everyone and everything was giving Casey a hard time. If you have been following the series, A Stranger in Town is certainly a must read since it makes some significant progress on the overall plot. I love getting to read more about Rockton and spend time with its large cast of characters, and I can’t wait to see where Armstrong will take the series next.

*Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Rockton #6 - Casey, Dalton and few others return to this 6th installment of the Rockton series. Things have started slowing down for several months, lets people being brought into Rockton and no extensions are being granted. In this installment tension run high when a surprise visit from a council member arrives and news that Casey and Dalton had already started to suspect get a bit of a confirmation but before they can deal with that they have to solve another crime. This time they must solve the crime of a lone survivor of an aggressive assault.

I know I've probably said this before but I really love this series, this is my 2nd time rereading it and I just get so wrapped up in the characters and the story. It's almost like a mini series like Law & Order is playing in my head. Kelley writes this so smooth that I try to solve and get the clues along with Casey and Dalton. Dalton curses a bit much but at the same time it makes me laugh.

If you are a fan of crime fiction or detective shows this is a series to read and if you prefer the audiobook format's better they are just as great. Thérèse Plummer does an amazing job! ( )

A Stanger in Town
3.5 Stars

When a seriously injured woman is discovered in the woods outside Rockton, Sheriff Eric Dalton and Detective Casey Duncan suspect an attack by the hostiles. The investigation soon raises more questions than answers as well as fears that the council will take advantage of the situation to shut the town down. Will Eric and Casey be able to save Rockton from more than one threat?

Series note: The events in this book rely heavily on ongoing character and plot development. Thus, it is recommended that the series be read in order.

The longer the series continues, the stronger its resemblance to the TV Lost as more characters appear on the scene of the supposedly secret town in the Yukon wilderness. Nevertheless, the basic premise and ongoing story arc is appealing and keeps me coming back for more.

The plot in this installment is comprised of several different threads that ultimately come together with an action-packed and exciting climax and resolution. That said, it does become bogged down with details in the middle.

The hints at changes in the air for the residents of Rockton are very intriguing and I look forward to seeing how the series regulars will handle the town's precarious future.

A Stranger in Town by Kelley Armstrong
Rockton / Casey Duncan series #6. Thriller. Should be read in series order.
A remote Alaskan community inhabited by people hiding or escaping turns deadly. Again. How much is politics by the board? Detective Casey, Sheriff Dalton and trusted friends investigate.

As we get to know more about this town, it is clear, we don’t yet have all the facts or motives. ( )

Advance copy from NetGalley

I was so excited to get this so early! I’m quite fond of this mystery series, and this one really moved things forward with Casey’s investigation into the Hostiles. I’m not sure how long Armstrong plans to keep the series going. With the ending it had, I hope it’s just poised to go in a new direction and not getting ready to wrap things up. I want to fall on the floor and groan when I think about the long wait for the next one. ( )
