This is an intriguing account of an underservedly little-known phenomenon, that of climbing the buildings of the 1930s University of Cambridge for sport and pleasure. Understandably done at night, to avoid the deserved attentions of the Proctors, the book chronicling it was also published pseudonymously, whilst the identities of those engaged in the practice were carefully concealed. However, the principle author is believed to have been Noel Howard Symington, who subsequently became involved in the British Fascist movement. The book is well written and is a fascinating piece of social history. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
First published in 1937, this title recounts the courageous (or foolhardy) nocturnal exploits of a group of students who climbed the ancient university and town buildings of Cambridge. The daring feats were recorded with prehistoric photographic paraphernalia, while the climbers tried to avoid detection by the 'minions of authority'. The result is a humorous adventure providing a glimpse into a side of Cambridge that has always been enshrouded in darkness. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
