This is a romance that starts out with a lot of desolation, and it’s actually rather depressing. Fenn has so much anger in him, and I’m honestly not convinced that the love of a good man and family have saved him. I’m still trying to figure out how everyone is actually surviving on the key too; I’m assuming most work on the mainland, but I guess I’m also supposed to go with it. I loved Mason and how open he was to things even with his fears, and I do think that he and Fenn were right for each other. I’m continuing on with the series and will see how this little key ends up because I did enjoy this but am very concerned about everyone in the town. ( )

Not only am I from small towns, I'm also a fan of the O'Leary series with its improbably intensely goofy-neighborly/nosy vibe. This series has ties to that one as it's where Mason's from. You don't have to have read it to start this series. It is a fantasy in that Mason's medical practice involves nothing as silly as insurance and that kind of dull nonsense, and I was 69% in when I realized it, so that worked quite well, really. :)

While there are similarities, Whispering Key feels more like what we fans of the Keys call "island time." Residents are small-town familiar with each other and are storm-aware and make sure everyone's safe. It's just a thing you do. Happens on the Hawaiian islands, too. The author's done a really fine job of conveying this interconnectedness, and this Floridian appreciates it.

Fenn has issues, Mason has issues, these issues conflict - and it felt organic to me, this attraction versus their hangups. I loved how the conclusions went. I mean, sure you could maybe predict elements, but the way it's done was great! Yep, I'll be reading this series, too. :) ( )

May Archer is just really good at found families and small, close knit communities. The plot isn't anything special, but this was certainly an enjoyable read and I'll most likely keep reading the series when ever the sequel comes out and/or I happen to be in the need for a light and fluffy romance to take my mind off real life. Loved it.
Funny and fluffy. Attraction and antagonistism. The setting of a run down pleasure island was perfect with Mayor Big Rafe lording it over his 'son's and luring a big city doctor to his '5*resort'. There's a whole host of endearing side characters (I loved Beale). And tales of long lost treasure and ghosts.

And the romance was excellent. Fenn's past and Mason's new sexual awareness provided enough friction that the conflict never felt forced. ( )
