This enemies-to-lovers-mafia story is maybe my favorite! I really liked both main characters - the leading lady was tough as nails and did not take any shit. I appreciate a bad bitch. ( )

This author has created another amazing mafia world to bring us some more fantastic characters and storylines. Two people from two completely different families that despise each other find themselves in an unhappy predicament. Aida comes from the Italian family and she is spontaneous, bold, carefree, and lives her life the way she wants until one event and a misunderstanding lead to her butting heads with Callum, next in line of the Irish mafia. These two are total opposites, where Aida is loud and outspoken Callum is a straightforward no nonsense kind of leader. For most of the story they just can’t seem to get along until Callum starts to see that Aida has a lot of helpful advice and a different side of her that she rarely shows others. There are a lot of twists, turns, funny moments that had me rolling, and so much steamy times but someone is out to destroy them. So can they come together and fight for each other or will they let their hatred continue to brew and take over? ( )

Both the hero and the heroine are from mafia families. Residing in the same city, both mafia families are pitted against each other for the control of the city's underworld. In the current generation, the rivalry arises to great heights when the heroine accidentally set fire to the library of the hero's family to escape after crashing a party with her siblings. There was retaliation and the war between the families would escalate if dire actions weren't taken. To stave off the situation, the hero and the heroine entered a marriage-of-convenience. Thus begins the romance between the hero and the heroine amidst the mafia world.

This is the first book in the BRUTAL BIRTHRIGHT series by Sophie Lark. It features the enemies-to-lovers romance between an older hero and a younger heroine in the dark world of the mafia underworld. This book is a good beginning to the series, though in my eyes it needed a bit more details to the story. I enjoyed the beautiful extras of the book, including the cover that has significance to the main characters. The book also has a good variety of interesting secondary characters, some of which will have future books in the series. Overall, an enjoyable beginning to this Sophie Lark series and I look forward to reading more books in the future from the author.

I could have loved this book if it weren't for Aida! What a huge, hateful, mean person she was! She stands there watching her brother get his ass kicked because she stole something that's in her pocket! She just has to give it back but won't. I couldn't stand her.....the best part of the book is when she is almost drowned by Cal! Did some skimming over some boring parts. ( )

"And I realized that pretty face disguised the soul of a demon."

This story was great it started out a little slow but really picked up quickly. I basically instantly fell in love with Aida, she is ferocious. I loved how feisty and strong willed she was. She is smarter than any of the males in the story give her credit for and I think that is what I loved best; because she constantly surprises Callum. I think Sophie did an amazing job at showing the tension between the two... they were a very believable enemies to lovers story. She also has amazing banter between the two of them. Not to mention the spice is on point in this one for sure.
Honestly I just wish it had felt more like a mafia story to me. I mean it had some elements for sure, but I felt like the biggest moment wasn't really as intense as it could have been. I think that element of wanting it to be just a bit darker and more mafia like is what kept me from giving it five stars. I really enjoyed the story and fell in love with Aida for sure; and I'm even open to reading more of the stories in the series. I think my favorite part was this one ended super believable and with a slightly cute twist. ( )
