A bear named LouAnn is baking herself a dozen doughnuts to prepare for her winter sleep, but there's a knock at the door...and another and another...LouAnn is happy to share with her friends (at first), but then there are no doughnuts left for her! Fortunately, her friends return: "We counted the doughnuts you made us. So many! And that's when we realized you didn't get ANY!" They remedy the situation and everyone is well-fed by the time snow blankets the ground.

The doughnuts on the endpapers at the beginning look delectable - readers might spend several minutes drooling over the endpapers before starting the story! (The endpapers at the back only show doughnut crumbs and a few bites left over.)

Rhyming text provides a light story, and can be the basis for a conversation about when it's easy to share and be generous, and when it's difficult, as well as the duties of a hosts and guests. ( )

LouAnn the bear loves to share, but sometimes sharing and caring leaves your tummy to rumble. Luckily, really good friends won't leave you hanging. Sweet illustrations. ( )

LouAnn the bear is making herself a doughnuts for her long winter’s nap. The only problem is before she can take her first bite the doorbell rings. Her friend, Woodrow the Woodchuck has dropped by for a visit. She divides the doughnuts between them and sits down to eat, but the doorbell rings and this time it is her friend, Clyde the racoon, then Topsy the opossum, and Moufette the skunk, Chip and Chomp the chipmunks until they are having one big party. She welcomes her guests and makes them each a batch of donuts and divides them equally between her friends. LouAnn is sad to realize that she is left without doughnuts when she is finished. Her friends save the day and make her a batch of her own. This is a great story about friendship. I would recommend this for any collection. The illustrations are colorful and bright and the readers can follow along and help tell the story with the bold vocabulary along the way. ( )
