England, 1948: Semi-retired spy Leo Page and country doctor James Sommers team up to solve a decades-old mystery. When James learns that an uncle he hasn't heard from in ages has left him something in his will, he figures that the least he can do is head down to Cornwall for a weekend to honor the old man's parting wishes. He finds the family home filled with half-remembered guests and unwanted memories, but more troubling is that his uncle has tasked his heirs with uncovering the truth behind a woman's disappearance twenty years earlier. Leo doesn't like any of it. He's just returned from one of his less pleasant missions and maybe he's slightly paranoid about James's safety, but he's of the opinion that rich people aren't to be trusted where wills are concerned. So he does what any sensible spy would do and infiltrates the house party. Together they unravel a mystery that exposes long-standing family secrets and threatens to involve James more than either of them would like.… (más)

A fun cozy mystery that gave us a kind of a confirmation of the HFN we got in the first book. We also got to know more about James's circumstances and his childhood. ( )

Somehow, Cat Sebastian takes yet another period of queer repression and, without diminishing the harm at all, makes stolen moments just intensely sweet.

I very much enjoyed the mystery, because of the solution specifically, but also it was a delight watching the ways in which our spy and our doctor try to figure it out, how they each observe, and how they share and puzzle together. And why they are participating--at this point in their relationship, the whys are important.

This was well worth the wait. ( )

Delicious— this is a fiercely sweet romance with characters that have to learn to value themselves. So appropriate, and so kind, and so full of interesting mystery and spy derring-do. ( )

I loved this one especially as it had more romance than the first; it was James and Leo really making their life work. The mystery here was great with a very satisfying ending; I appreciated the nuance that went into it including not revealing all the answers. ( )

I definitely enjoyed this one more than the first, which I find rare for a sequel. It benefited from the main characters being established already as Sebastian could focus more on the murder-mystery plot rather than trying to juggle character/relationship development with telling the reader about actual UK history on top of a small town mystery plot as in the first one. This read less like a noir Swedish television show and more like a normal family drama which I enjoyed more, since I'm not really a fan of the mystery genre. ( )

When James descended from the platform of an unfamiliar train station and climbed into a waiting taxi, he was already in an unspeakable mood, raw and vulnerable as an undressed wound.
