Adventure. It's what my boring life is missing, so when I fall through a portal into another world, I'm excited. Here, I'm important. Here, I'm special. I find out just how special when I meet Death. He's been exiled to the mortal realm to work through his flaws, and he's just as spoiled and awful as you'd think. Rhagos, the Shadow Lord, is arrogant and rude and controlling and demands to get his way. He's selfish. He's impossible. He's also utterly gorgeous. Magnetic. Lonely. And strangely protective of me. Thanks to a magic bond, I now serve him as his anchor to the mortal realm. It means that I'm his conscience, his guide . . . and the target for any assassin or glory-seeker. After a few days of this, I'd rather go home than continue on this adventure. As the world falls down around us and we're hunted simply for existing, I find myself wondering what it'd be like to serve the lonely god of death . . . in all ways. To kiss him. To touch him. To bed him. Except . . . I'm supposed to be finding a way home, not trying to kiss Rhagos. No matter how tempting he is. No matter how much he stares at my lips. No matter how much I want it. I didn't like Sworn to the Shadow God as much as the first book in the series, but it was pretty good. I loved the beginning of the book, but just liked the middle and the end. I would read this again, though. Ruby Dixon's version of fantasy/romance is something that I need more of in my life.

The main characters were good and I liked both of them, but I could have liked them more.

Rhagos lacked some depth for most of the story, simply because there wasn't much of his POV. Also, his aspect made him a difficult man to pin down. His feelings for Max were obvious from the beginning though.

Almost the whole book was from Max's POV, and she has some irritating qualities. She has absolutely no common sense, but is still strangely confident in her decision making skills. It made it difficult to empathize with her. Also, she was inconsistent with her anger when it came to Rhagos. Sometimes she was angry at him for things that he couldn't control, but then not angry at all when he did something that deserved some outrage. ( )

I listened to 20% of the book before giving up. Her idiocy actually hurt to read.

A world very well created for us as it's easy to see what the author does. You will love Thanks - can the God of Death be adorable, caring, and tender? Why yes he can. Max is a strong woman and an even match for her god. Their story reads fast so I'm starting over to pick up more of the richness Ruby gives us. ( )
