In Shot to Hell, we meet characters like Emily Slocum, Rooster, and Possum who readers met in the book titled, Bullets Don’t Argue. While it isn’t necessary to read the aforementioned book to enjoy the newest to the Perley Gates series, I know I enjoyed the story more because I knew what occurred before in Bison Gap.
Once again it was entertaining to see Perley Gates do just about anything to avoid confrontation, referred to as “cow pies” by his brothers. When I read this, it made me chuckle. Then to envision such a tranquil man have people of nefarious backgrounds seek him out, believing him to be a gunman and therefore someone to conquer.
Here, Perley goes back to Bison Gap to help friends of his after receiving a letter from a person who lives in there. I liked how the town of Bison Gap once again with steel in their spines decided to face the evil they had allowed to dwell in their midst. While Perley is an unpretentious man and doesn’t look like a threat, he is sought by gunman to test his mettle. Perley works hard and stands by family and friends no matter where they reside.
If you’re looking for a good western with a wonderful fictional character, look no further than the Perley Gates Western series! ( )
