Fiction. Romance. Historical Fiction. HTML:

Fans of the historical romances of Sabrina Jeffries, Loretta Chase, and Jo Beverly will enjoy this sexy, award-winning romance by New York Times bestselling author Candice Hern.

John Grayston, seventh Viscount Rochdale, has never refused a wager, especially one that involves enticing a beautiful woman into his bed. He's willing to stake his most prized possession that there's not a single woman in all England immune to his charms. But when the object of the wager is the prim and proper Grace Marlowe, he has to turn on the full force of his seductive charm.

Grace's stalwart virtue is put to the test when the infamous rake shows an unexpected interest in her. Outraged, flattered, and reluctantly attracted, she soon finds herself falling under the spell of the man behind the scandalous reputation. Rochdale, in turn, is delighted to discover a fiery passion beneath the widow's prudish façade. But when hearts and lives become tangled in the gamble, the truth of his seduction could ruin everything.

"Exquisitely sensual, brilliantly plotted, and laced with wicked wit, this latest addition to Hern's "Merry Widows" series sparkles with rare fire as its sheltered heroine comes into her own in the arms of a charming rascal and learns just how rewarding it is to be 'bad'." â?? Library Journal

"Richly nuanced characters, wickedly subtle wit, and elegantly sensual style." â?? BookList

"Perfect! Absolutely, positively, without a doubt, LADY BE BAD is an utterly perfect read!" â?? Romance Reader at Hea… (más)

Quick read. Usual historical romance, notorious rake and virtuous woman with lots of miscommunication. John wagers a bet with another scoundrel for his famous race horse if he can bed the famous Bishop's prim widow in 3 months’ time. Needless to say, they despise each other in the beginning but slowly start falling in love during the "getting to know you" phase of his wooing the widow. ( )

Seems like there was supposed to be another book because there was no epilogue or big ending. Great series anyway. ( )

Up until the last 70 pages, this book was fun, interesting, it was a delightful romance between a roguish, rake with a good heart and the prim, proper lady that discovers passion. But in the last 70 pages the story collapses and turns into the clichés ridden mush. It became a bad melodrama, the characters lost their sparks, their chemistry and the wonderful repartee that charmed me so. I wish that just for once a writer would go in the opposite direction of the "oh woe, he lied to me, oh woe, I can't tell her my terrible secret". So this is wonderful until the house of cards folds in a pile of pink, sugary mush. ( )

I found the first half,or more of this book predictable . Rake pursues virtuous female determinedly, she twitters, but is above reproach widow. When the truth of a wager surfaces the story becomes interesting and the heroine becomes more fully realized. the 2nd half of the book makes the book a worth while read. ( )
