This book is a story about a man who falls in love with a girl. However, in the process of trying to woo her he ends up embarrassing himself. In the end the girl, Polly, finds Potch's actions adorable and falls for him. The book ends happily with the two enjoying life together.

For some - rather mischievous - sorts, love doesn't come easily. For Potch, who was born laughing, things are even worse - perhaps the only thing to keep him from the love of his life is... well... himself. When you're as silly and energetic as he is, you do quite a bit more that can accidentally get in the way of love.

"Potch & Polly," with Jon Agee's round, expressive pencil drawings and William Steig's snappy text, is a silly romp that many young readers should enjoy - but it's especially one that should strike a chord with anybody who just can't sit still for very long, and finds himself at a loss for how to do "normal things" with "normal people." For these people, they'll find it only natural that when Potch meets Polly and falls in love, it's all downhill from there. Every antic Potch comes up with to woo Polly ends up exploding in his face, and his love problems only escalate until the very end, when Polly recognizes Potch's humble intent and comes up with a few tricks of her own.

It's a peppy story, one that really resonates; even though I somehow feel Agee's illustrations are wonderful but somehow misplaced here, you nonetheless can't match the literary antics going on in "Potch & Polly." Now if only I could find my own Polly. ( )

This book is about Potch, a man who talks in a weird language of his own and loves life. He goes to a dance and meets Polly. He wants to be with her, so he keeps surprising her in bad ways to get her. In the end they do end up together. This is an example of fantasy because the things he does would not happen in real life. There is also an angel he talks to that everyone can see. The plot in this story is good because it does keep the reader engaged. They want to see what Potch will come up with next. They also want to know if they get together and in the end they do. ( )
