It is extremely non-pretentious, but I found it very enjoyable or rather moving. I am waiting for Arthur Link to finish his multi-volume study of Wilson, and I suppose he never will, so I found this book, in its coverage of the years 1917 to 1924 telling me much I did not know. Wilson was an interesting and odd person--this book I think accurately shows that after his stroke in 1919 he was no longer the brilliant person he was before; and some of the things he did then were wrong. It is interesting that Edith died on Dec 28, 1961, which was the 105th anniversary of Woodrow's birth. A satisfying book. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Includes never-before-printed selections from the President's and Edith's lover letters. "Shachtman's analysis of the Wilson-Galt relationship is handled intelligently and unpretentiously. He does not canonize or romanticize his subjects-he draws them as they were, faulty lines and all. He knows his history and writes about it in colorful, compact prose."-Hartford Courant No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
