Two short stories about Alexander the Alabarch. The first tells the tale of how Alexander tried to free a kidnapped Jewish slave and ended up finding his own slave Amarantus instead. In the second story, Alexander joins his friend Claudius for an appointment to meet his friend¿s relative Quintus Antonius ¿ the Antonius with ¿the quirk.¿ Then death finds them in the tavern and they must discover whether the death was murder, or simply fate. The stories are followed by some historical material including a papyrus that mentions Amarantus.
