This story, picking up on the loose ends from the final "Korra" series, is yet another example of a fine and nuanced look at complex problems within the simplified "Avatar" universe. In "Ruins of the Empire", we see both sides of what well-intentioned fanaticism can cause, we see some costs (though mostly upsides) to public trials of public figures, we see the challenges of a genuine desire for redemption and change, we see some of the inherently contradictory issues of democratic ideals as well some of the pratical concerns around any process of democratization, and we see, well, only one side of brain-washing, and that's as it should be.

A fine piece of world-building and world-deepening, and a worthy follow-up to the television series. I thought the previous comic installment, "Turf Wars", was just okay, but this was a big step back up. ( )

This did a good job wrapping up the plot in a satisfying way. It was also an interesting exploration of redemption and accountability. ( )
