I do not know why it is, or how it seems to be a reoccurring theme, but I tend to rather like the two main people depicted in Alexander books (I say this because there’s many a book where I just don’t like the mains, or, at the very least, am only neutral toward them). Not necessarily other characters in the book, but I do tend to like the mains – though there are exceptions. I mean, how can you not like someone who goes to the trouble of capturing a turtle, buying a leash, and attempting to put said leash on the turtle, just to have an excuse to visit another woman in the book who she’s having trouble otherwise getting in contact with (that other woman works as a veterinarian).
I’d have to double check, but Alexander’s work tends to be short to begin with, somewhere in the low 200s if I recall correctly, and this one here is even shorter (70-something). Not sure what happened with this one, why it is quite short. There is a quite neat story here, relatively fully formed.
The concept of the story is that a niece stops by asking for help with her current relationship. As part of helping her, two women tell the story of how the two of them stopped hating each other and started loving each other. There was a flood involved. And a turtle.
