2.5 stars. The intentionally ludicrous and exaggerated style made me laugh out loud at the beginning, but it got old quickly. The exaggerated depictions of the characters, protags and antags alike, made it almost impossible to relate to or care about them, and that became a big distraction for me. I’m aware that this is political commentary in the form of a blatant guffawing look at a dumbed-down future America (sorry, Themerica!), so it wasn’t written with a particularly serious undercurrent in mind, but it’s hard to hang with a story when there isn’t much anchoring you to it. (Other than a pronounced dislike of the Politicons, which was the point...but I don’t like being fueled by spite.)
Also, why does the book description give away the last chapter of the book? I literally thought the book would involve a deeper dive into that aspect of it, but no, literally one chapter. It was misleading and left me disappointed. ( )
