This book I read on 1986-1998. Today I saw it and I add it here.
Al Alexandre Dumas books are great with a flavor of adventure, of mystery tangled through the grooves of the mind, pass through the pace of the adventure writer. ( )

This is a delightful novel, set in 1540, during the reign of Francois I, and starring Benvenuto Cellini. There is art and adventure and romance and political intrigue.

The main plot concerns the love of Ascanio, Cellini's apprentice, for Colombe, the daughter of the Provost of Paris, Robert d'Estourville. d'Estourville has, of course, promised his daughter to another. Furthermore, the king's mistress, Madame d'Etampes, who conspires with d'Estourville and others, hates Cellini and has fallen in love with Ascanio.

According to http://www.cadytech.com/dumas, this novel was published in 1843, probably in collaboration with Paul Meurice. In English, this was sometimes titled _Francois I_ or _The Sculptor's Apprentice_. ( )
