This was just okay. The cover and title make it look more interesting than it was. I didn't really get on with the style--interspersed with each story from the field was a spiritual diatribe. Sometimes these were lengthy and I felt like I was reading a sermon that had no application for my current context. I much prefer these biographies when they stick to the things happening on the ground with the odd life lesson or Scripture applied. ( )

The Buhid are a tribal people scattered through the mountainous island of Mindoro in the Philippines. Fear of spirits, oppression other Filipinos, and backsliding were common. Haworth and his family came to live among them, and work with local church elders to develop a program of teaching to set the churches on a sound footing. As the Buhid gained fresh confidence in the power of their Saviour, they started to reach out to other communities.
