Fast paced and fascinating book with exciting plot. Perfect read for 4th graders. Book was written about a boy's heroic efforts to save his sister and pet from the quickly spreading, dangerous wildfires of CA. The young man shows maturity in putting his own fears aside to think quickly and make big decisions.I really enjoyed this read and recommend this book to young readers, especially those living in CA during the 2019 CA Camp Fire. When Troy's parents go out of town leaving him in charge of his little sister, all he wants to do is eat junk food, stay up late, and watch t.v. Instead, he is woken by a black sky, clouds of smoke, and fire. Desperate to escape, Troy, his sister and their two pets try and drive away in their parents vehicle. When it becomes clear that the roads are jammed and the fire is almost ontop of them, they are forced to flee on foot. This is a great middle-school or pre-teen book. It combines adventure, fortitude and survival together. Troy and his sister are both very believable characters. Although it was a bit too simplistic for an adult reader, I believe a younger age group will love it. Esta reseña ha sido escrita por los Primeros Reseñadores de LibraryThing. [I escaped the California Camp Fire : California's deadliest wildfire] by Scott Peters. 14-year-old Troy and his younger sister stay alone at home when their parents enjoy an evening out - hooray for junk food and tv. But later in the night they realize that the power is gone - no light but fire in the distance and text messages about a fire and he should get out of there as soon as possible. He put his sister and the pets in the car and did his best driving the car out of town. But the fire jumped them ... A nice, readable story of a young teenager doing some good thinking and so saving himself and his sister from the deadliest fire ever. There are some statistics about the fire at the end of the book. I know my 10 year old would love these. This story was about the California Camp Fire and how 14 years old Troy got out and saved his little sister and the family pets. What I liked about this, was how they gave just enough detail to make the reader understand how serious and deadly the situation was. At the end of the book, there are some statistics from the fire that is listed as the 6th deadliest wildfire in the US. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

This book is full of realistic action between the older brother and younger sister. He takes his promise to his parents to protect his sister even when she becomes annoying. This is fast paced, on the seat of your chair action from the very beginning. For those who are fans of the “I Survived “ series by Lauren Tarshis, I guarantee that you will enjoy this series. I highly recommend this to all adventure readers. ( )
