A book about a girl who overcomes her fears of swimming with the help of her walrus imaginary friend. :) If your kids would get ideas from a book where a girl is afraid of a shark being in the pool, skip this one.

I wanted to give this a better review. So many children have a fear of the water. Or swimming. Or sharks. One of my biggest memories from childhood is freaking out at the movie Zeus and Roxanne where there are sharks in the ocean and I thought the dog was going to get eaten.

For the record, I still barely do shark movies. Although I finally watched JAWS and I thought that was plain ol' hokey. I kind of hated 47 meters down....because a shark cage is my worst nightmare. Anyway

This is another book about tackling anxiety which, as a person who struggles with anxiety, I appreciate it! The subtle nuances of being busy during the week (which helps distract from the anxiety) is one that I can relate to. Still, I don't fully get why the other character was a walrus. I didn't love the end. Yes, we knew that Lottie would get in the water but still....... ( )

Lottie is afraid of the shark in the swimming pool, but a walrus called Walter helps her overcome her fear by listening (and singing a charming song: Humbelly doo, lumbelly la, loopy loo!).

"Lottie & Walter" takes the reader on an adventure at the local swimming pool. Lottie is afraid to swim because there is a shark waiting for her at the bottom of the pool. The other kids don't see the shark. After swim lessons, Lottie meets a new friend named Walter the Walrus. Lottie and Walter do everything together for the next week. When its time for swim lessons again, Lottie is still afraid to jump in. But, Walter encourages her and she overcomes her fear. I enjoyed reading this book because it is a story many children can relate to. It teaches them that we can face our fears with the help of a friend. ( )
