"Picking up where they last left off in Breaking Cat News, are Elvis, Puck, and Lupin reporting on the breaking news that matters to cats. Cynical, no-nonsense Elvis and shy, sweet, sensitive Puck are the reporter kitties in the field, while the adventurous jokester Lupin serves as anchor cat. Together, they're back to break headlines on mysterious man "tails," all things holiday-related, new cat friends, and all the daily happenings in and outside their home." -- publisher.… (más)

Once again full of adorableness; we're introduced to the "ceiling cats", one of whim Elvis does NOT get along with and Elvis finds his own baby human to love. Plus we learn what's up with that backyard cat and the mysteries of the laundry room! ( )

Heh, this was even better than the first one. More hilariousness with Lupin, Elvis and Puck.

There's a cool plot with the outside cat too. More with Baby #1 who is now a Toddler. Not to mention a new addition to Man, Woman, and Toddler. Oh and heh heh-- there was a slso a lot of hilariousness with Man and the cats, oh, my gosh the stuff with the shaver.

THe rainy day stuff was super cute too.

Overall it was a sometimes cute, sometimes hilarious and always spot on when it comes to cat behavior. ( )

Utterly delightful. This book is exactly how pet cats are and is clearly done with love for her cats. I laughed out loud several times while reading this book. ( )

Three indoor cats report the news that matters (to cats). Cat lovers and graphic novel fans will find these brief, episodic comics highly amusing. Though marketed as middle grade, this is likely to appeal to all ages. It's the second book in the series, but I don't think that matters much since there's not much of an overarching plot. This reminded me a bit of the Binky books by Ashley Spires. ( )

Lupin Leaps In is the second book of reprints from Georgia Dunn's 'Breaking Cat News' comic strip. The household on the second floor of the Big Pink House still consists of the Man, the Woman, the baby boy (promoted to toddler), and their three male cats: Elvis the grumpy Siamese, Puck the sweet black cat who is missing his right hind foot, and Lupin, the adventurous deaf white cat. Later in the book, the couple's daughter is added to the family. I was very amused by Elvis' reaction to the new baby in contrast to his feelings about her brother in book one, Breaking Cat News. The cat-sitting intruder is once again, the Woman's sister.

Tommy, the outdoor cat from book one gets named here. We are also introduced to the ceiling cats from the apartment above, who do their reporting in subtitled Spanish. There's a dignified male cat, Sir Figaro Newton, who speaks no English, and an alpha female cat, Tabitha, who does. Lupin meets Sir Figaro Newton when he discovers the laundry chute. Elvis goes in to rescue Lupin from what he assumes is a hostile cat. (I loved his reaction when Tabitha showed up to deal with him.) I would not mess with Tabitha.

If you're a fan of professional wrestling (or at least have watched some of it), you'll enjoy Elvis and Lupin's match, narrated by Puck. We also get the cats' assumptions about three human holidays: Halloween, Christmas, and St. Patrick's Day. The Christmas storyline has a very sweet section where Elvis gets lost and is helped by Tommy. Elvis does Tommy a big favor in return. This leads to Tommy becoming their cat about town correspondent.

Other enjoyable scenes are the cats in their holiday costumes, their snarks in response to a woman guest who repeats silly superstitions about cats to the Woman, a game Lupin plays with the toddler that should be fun for kaiju (Japanese giant monsters) fans, their questions about why the living room is decorated for a historical Supreme Court ruling, the Venn diagram for toddlers, how 'the intruder' figured out which cat was Elvis, when the toddler is sick, and 'Whose hairball was that?'.

Pages 186-205 are the 'More to Explore' section. These are done mostly in Ms. Dunn's later style. Puck has more expression since Ms. Dunn started drawing his eyebrows and mouth in white. Page 187 has a cameo appearance of Beatrix, Sophia, and two of the Robber Mice, Alice and Natasha. Readers are taught how to draw the main cats and their expressions. Pages 192-193 show how to draw other pets, such as dogs, birds, and ferrets, etc. as reporters. Pages 194 - 205 have paper doll tips as well as paper dolls of Elvis, Puck, Lupin, and Tommy. There are clothes and props that I would recommend copying and then cutting out instead of cutting from the book.

I hope I've given enough of an idea of the contents to help fans figure out if a favorite storyline is included.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and unhesitatingly recommend it to cat lovers (unless one just thinks cats in clothes as reporters is silly). ( )

[Elvis' declaration during 'Naptime Championship Wrestling -- Lupin's wrestling name revealed later]
I'm the Prince of Pounce, the Duke of Puke, the Siamese you cannot please, Mommy's Special Boy, Elvis! And I'm coming for you, Lupin! (p. 13)
[Lupin and Elvis have met Sir Figaro Newton, one of the cats from the upstairs apartment. Elvis thinks he's protecting Lupin as he menaces Sir Figaro. Elvis claims the ceiling cats don't speak English when Lupin suggests talking. Tabitha shows up.]
I speak English. I speak four languages. I am an alpha female. I scare dogs. I have caught the RED DOT. [raises paw to Elvis, who cringes] And if you don't stop menacing him, I will swat you. I swear to CAT, I will swat you silly. (p.95)
