Grandpa hates being in hospital, and likes to vent his frustration on the staff and his family; however, his grandson loves him despite his grouchy nature. Together, they plan a daring escape and adventure -- to return to the island where he lived happily for many years with his now deceased wife. The grandson enlists the help of a local baker, who is also a strong character, masquerading as a nephew/uncle. Reminded me a bit of A Man Called Ove, partially for the Swedish author and setting and partially for the grumpy grandpa, but it is a far simpler story. The illustrations were simple, but an effective addition.
