This authoritative volume brings together established experts to review the theories, research, and treatment methodologies associated with the major cognitive-behavioral models. Unlike other works that approach cognitive-behavioral therapies from the perspective of how to treat different symptoms or disorders, the Handbook first examines the tenets of each theoretical model in depth, and then provides examples of clinical applications. The goal is to provide a solid conceptual framework within which the clinician can make informed choices about which interventions to choose and apply with individual clients. Also addressed are basic principles of cognitive assessment and case formulation, current directions in clinical research, and the role of cognitive-behavioral therapy in the psychotherapy integration movement.… (más)

Book title and author: Handbook of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies, Third edited by Keith S. Dobson reviewed 11-16-23.

Why I picked this book up: Ive had this book in my library for a long time and I was interested in the data, effectiveness, hx and what the science tells us about CBT interventions.

Thoughts: Handbook of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies, Third edited by Keith S. Dobson chapters 1 and 2, Historical and Philosophical basis of the CBT therapies, similarities and diversity among the CB Therapies, the evidence base for CBT, third-wave CBT, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, resistance, Cog science and the conceptual foundations and cognitive-behavioral therapy viva la evolution. From revolution to evolution and Cog behavior therapy and psychotherapy integration. Cognitive assessment issues and methods, here we get case formulation, problem solving theories REBT, Chap. 9, Cognitive Therapy. The Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Functional Model CBT case formulation and problem solving therapy. Rational Emotive bx therapy. Theory of Therapeutic Change.
REBT holds that humans have the capacity to choose to work toward changing irrational thinking and its self-defeating effects, and that the most elegant and long-lasting changes that humans can effect are ones that involve the philosophical restructuring of irrational beliefs. Change at this level can be specific or general. Specific philosophical change means that rigid demands (“musts,” absolute “shoulds”) about given situations are changed to nondogmatic preferences. General philosophical change involves the adoption of a
nondogmatic preferential attitude toward life events in general. Ellis distinguished between superelegant and semielegant philosophical change at the general level. Common cog. distortions, Difference with other CBT(herapies), assessment considerations, therapeutic process, in vivo, nosological model, SCID, gen cognitions, interference, automatic thoughts, intermediary, therapeutic bonds, Foremost treatment developers explain core CBT principles and provide a framework for systematic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment planning. Scholarly yet accessible chapters on each therapy detail what makes the approach unique, which clinical problems it is used to treat, what assessment and intervention tools have been developed, how they are implemented, and what the research reveals about the therapy’s effectiveness. Special topics include working with children and adolescents, couples, and culturally diverse clients. The Handbook has been widely adopted in training programs, and the revisions in this edition reinforce its value as a text. Schema Therapy, Mindfulness and acceptance interventions in CBT, CBT with youth, CBT Couple Therapy and finally CBT with diverse populations.

Why I finished this read: This book was rather dry, a little bit boring but it was providing me with what I wants, it kept developing for me, I have used many of these therapies, I wanted to see how far it has developed and covered some of the mindfulness that stated using after many years of CBT practice.

Stars rating: Because of the boring content but useful information, based in science I decided to rate it at a 3.25 stars. ( )
