Inspired by the feature film produced, written, and directed by Chicago filmmaker Joseph Strickland, The Making of Dual Mania: Filmmaking Chicago Style is a boldly personal account of what it takes to create, produce, and direct an independent feature film in current times. The nonfiction narrative takes the reader through the sometimes hilarious, frustrating, and bewildering film production process with the fiercely creative Strickland, along with co-authors B.J. Patterson and Cat Ellington, witnessing a fiery account of his own firsthand experiences through the menacing highs and lows of independent filmmaking in Chicago. With a fascinating foreword by Cat Ellington, The Making of Dual Mania: Filmmaking Chicago Style also features in-depth interviews with the filmmakers, detailed storyboards, behind the scenes photos, and the original motion picture screenplay.… (más)

JamesBon: This dude is radical. You don't see many people like him in the movie business these days, helping find the next voice in making original films. John has a mouth and he uses for the good. Very good read!

I got this book, the making of DUAL MANIA recently and I was curious about how movies get made outside of the traditional studio system. It takes a lot of guts to tackle making any movie, especially one without any studio support. I now learned that besides bravery, film people need to create a compelling script to draw in performers to participate in making a movie, a competent crew and someone to direct the project. Afterwards, hopefully they have created a decent enough movie that will get picked up by a movie distributor. This film book shows a new film director named Joseph Strickland who wrote, produced and directed this movie and I must admit he wrote a pretty good script (included inside the book, thanks pal), and he kept a journal of what he went through to get this project done. I now have a renewed respect for such tough, hardy individuals whose calling to the arts of making entertainment for us everyday pinheads (who enjoy watching movies at our leisure at home or inside of theaters). I salute you, sir! Good job. Well worth reading! ( )

Cool book. I'm glad I bought it. Learned a lot. Also, I loved the screenplay and thought it was researched very well by the screenwriter Joseph Strickland. Storyboards were kind of dorky but effective. Overall, a very good read. ( )
