Donalyn Miller's Book Whisperer was the real "game changer" for me, but this one has important and inspirational info as well. It's geared more toward the classroom teacher than a librarian, but I still picked up valuable tips and research that backs up independent reading and CHOICE along with critical access to book ownership for all students. One of my favorite chapters was "Knowing Children's and Young Adult Literature: The Key to Matching Readers with Books." It includes some great ideas from principal Brad Gustafson, who stated, "When teachers share their love of reading, they influence students' reading lives and transform the heartbeat of their school." Absolutely! ( )
