Fans of Firefly and Star Wars can't help but fall for this sexy new paranormal romance from the author of the USA Today bestselling fantasy, THE KINGMAKER CHRONICLES. The galaxy's most wanted captain must trust her life to a charming and mysterious rogue if she doesn't want to see her latest mission go up in smoke...

Tess Bailey: the galaxy's Most Wanted.

Captain Tess Bailey and her ragtag crew are on the run, pursued by a tyrant who'll take them dead or alive. Her best hope is a tall, dark, and much-too-appealing stranger, Shade Ganavan. The handsome charmer claims he can help, but his motivations are far from clear...

Shade Ganavan: arrogance, charm...and that special roguish something that makes you want to scream.

There's no denying their chemistry, but with the dreaded Dark Watch closing in, what Tess and Shade don't know about each other might get them killed...unless they can set aside their differences and learn to trust each other before it's too late.

I bought the book when it first came out, and without reading it bought the second in this series. I finally got around to reading it, it took some time getting into it, but it was pretty good. I just can't seem to get into the second in this series. It is not nearly as good as the previous series Amanda wrote, and it was based on the strength of that series I bought these books. I don't know.

It's a space opera/romance/rebels vs. the Empire/life on colonized planets/princess as the heroine/special snowflake with mysterious powers/is the hero going to betray the heroine for money/kind of book. ( )

A space opera romance on the very light side. The worldbuilding is rudimentary and lacks internal coherence and logic.
The writing is strong in places, the interpersonal scenes the best parts, but overall the story does not ring true. It reads like a romance writers clever attempts to break into SFF, and unfortunately failing.
Tess is a rebel, fighting against the very, very evil Overlord of the known galaxy as a captain of a spaceship. She gets her hands on some extremely hot commodity, setting of a dramatic interstellar chase leading her to dock a very damaged ship planetside. Enlisting a morally ambiguous shopkeeper to repair the ship, she gets more than she bargained for, and romance ensues. Of course there are complications, renewed drama and denouements before a happy for now state is achieved, opening the way for the next book in the series.
I am not particularly interested in reading sex scenes, and long drawn out scenes with sexual tension tend to bore me, so I am probably not the ideal audience for this kind of book.
Also, it is really difficult to overcome the huge suspense of disbelief needed to make it work. The evil evil overlord is so sorely lacking in any substance that he seems a mere plot device. And no evil overlord worth his salt would have overseers in all the streets, but neglect to monitor space ship ports for arrivals and departures, particularly arrivals of heavily damaged ships. ( )

I read book 2 before book 1 and this did remove some of the will they won't they suspense of the story. Tess Bailey is a wanted criminal and she's on the run with her band of friends. They get help from Shade Ganavan and things get complicated from there, there are space battles, politics and lots of yearning and sex. The two of them have a complicated life and none is more complicated than Tess and the reasons the leader of the galaxy wants her in custody.
I'm enjoying this series, but the big bad is very big and very bad and things are very very complicated. ( )

I’m not a huge fan of space themed novels but this had just enough going for it to keep me reading - the “adult” scenes were the best part tbh.
I wish it was easier to find good fantasy/paranormal/sci-fi books that have adult characters and “adult fun times” rather than just teenagers holding hands and sighing. ( )
