Fantasy. Fiction. Science Fiction. Historical Fiction. HTML:In the latest novel in Genevieve Cogman's historical fantasy series, the fate of worlds lies in the balance. When a dragon is murdered at a peace conference, time-travelling Librarian spy Irene must solve the case to keep the balance between order, chaos...and the Library.
When Irene returns to London after a relatively straightforward book theft in Germany, Bradamant informs her that there is a top secret dragon-Fae peace conference in progress that the Library is mediating, and that the second-in-command dragon has been stabbed to death. Tasked with solving the case, Vale and Irene immediately go to 1890s Paris to start their investigation.
Once they arrive, they find evidence suggesting that the murder victim might have uncovered proof of treachery by one or more Librarians. But to ensure the peace of the conference, some Librarians are being held as hostages in the dragon and Fae courts. The Library are hosting a peace talk between the Fey and the Dragons, possibly putting themselves out of relevance but at the same time it might just make living an easier prospect, except for assassins and a dragon turning up dead and Irene and her detective friend Vale have to track down the killer or there will be literal war. And the world of the peace treaty will be first.

A lot of politics and trying to circumvent killers who seem to want to add to the stress she's under and complicate her life even more, though Kai and Vale seem to be doing their own job with that. I enjoyed it and really want to know what's going to happen next. ( )

Another excellent installment in the Invisible Library series. When a murder disrupts peace talks between the dragons and the Fae, Irene and her detective friend Vale are called upon to solve the case and hopefully save the peace. Fast-paced and full of twists, this book also makes satisfying progress in the relationship between Irene and Kai. I enjoyed this book and I look forward to continuing this series. ( )

This is the best one yet in this series. Multiple credible suspects and a fast pace kept me reading while I should have slept. ( )

The balance between standing around talking about a mystery and moving forward investigating a mystery is off. The characters and antagonists exhibit the familiar power-surge of a series. ( )

Another exciting installment in "The Invisible Library" series. Librarians are mediating peace talks between Dragons and Fae. When a delegate is murdered, junior librarian Irene Winters as well as master detective Peregine Vale are summoned to solve the case in an alternate Paris during the Belle Epoque. Several characters from earlier books appear, including dragon/former library apprentice Kai Strongrock (who just happened to be in the area, really, nothing to see here), and new characters are introduced. I especially liked Mu Dan.

This book continues exploring the themes of order and chaos, and how they affect the humans in the middle. As always, Irene is incredibly practical, though not necessarily tactful. ( )
