I enjoyed this book because the story line and illustrations were both very realistic. This book is about a young boy and his grandfather spending quality time together fishing. The boy begins to ask his grandfather about what life was like when he was little. The grandfather begins to tell the boy all about his childhood growing up and how different it was. For example the boy states, "You didn't have a T.V. Grandpa? No cartoons? Boy, that must have been awful." The grandfather then replies, "No, Noel, it wasn't awful you can't miss what you never had. The grown-ups would sit on the porch after dinner and talk, while we kids would run around trying to catch lightn' bugs". The illustration matched perfectly with the text showing what it would have looked liked during that time. The big idea behind this story is that life changes constantly which prompts the reader to imagine what life was like before technology was introduced and to look back on the things people use to do instead of watching T.V. Really long/grandpa and boy are fishing, grandpa tells heim about the old days- no cars, no phones, etc.-sweet but too long. ( )
