Rose Denton wakes up in her car. She has no memory of how she got there. But she knows something bad happened... There's blood on the windscreen and bonnet - but it's not hers and there's no sign of anything or anyone she might have hit. The last thing she remembers is being in a hotel on a business trip but now she's miles away. Back home and her daughter's boyfriend is missing. The last thing he did was argue with Rose over money. He left no note, no text, no clue as to his whereabouts. The police have questions - and so does Rose's family. But those are little compared to the ones she has for herself. What happened last night? And, perhaps more importantly, does she really want to know the answer? A totally addictive psychological thriller which will keep you turning the pages until the final dramatic twist. What readers are saying about Last Night: 'Wow this had me captivated!...The book went by in a flash and OMG that ending! A really really good book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Kerry has a fantastic knack of making you want to read and read and read before you know it you're at the end of another book... I really didn't see what was coming towards the end. It ended with a good twist.'I Love Reading 'Brilliant as usual, this author can do no wrong in my eyes, so many twists and turns, I can never tell how the stories will end up.'Goodreads Reviewer, 5 stars 'A really good thriller. I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

Rose wakes up in her car in the middle of the night, apparently having driven it off the road into a field. There is blood on the windscreen, but no other evidence of damage to the car and no body (animal or human) in the immediate vicinity. All she can remember is being at a hotel after a client failed to show up for a meeting. Rose drives home and hoses down the car. Then more odd things start to happen and Rose does not know whom to trust.

I thought this was well-written and compelling. There was perhaps a stage where the most exciting thing occurring was car keys going missing and things slowed a little, but overall the plot moved forward swiftly. I found it hard to relate to Rose:

SPOILERS

marriage over, poor relationship with her daughter, no good at her job, a poor friend to Ellie, no other friends or interests/hobbies at all, etc etc - it was all so depressing and distancing. Then too, the way everything related back to events from 20 years ago was a little tiresome and drip fed to the reader.

Still, well-plotted and the red herrings were satisfactorily explained away. The very ending was unnecessary. ( )
