Was it purely shoddy workmanship and materials or was something more sinister going on? Always a pleasure to watch Decius Caecilius and his household and friends at work. The eighth in the series, and a fine example. Decius continues to rise through the course of honor and is now an aedile. His main worry is the cost of the games that he will have to give as part of his office. But he has other responsibilities, which lead him into the investigation of a a building collapse. Someone important was clearly involved, but it's not easy for Decius to find out who, and it starts to look dangerous as well. Interesting and fully developed characters, and the usual fascinating view of Roman life. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Ancient Rome, in this accurate and evocative series, is just as politics driven as any major American city -- possibly even more. Decius Caecilius Metellus has, through a series of rather wild adventure, and in the act of tracking down killers and other reprobates, barely escaped annhilation several times. Now, newly elected to the office of aedile, the lowest rung on the ladder of Roman authority, he must smoke out corruption and conspiracy that threaten to destroy all of Rome.
