The first time I laid eyes on Lydia Decker, I couldn't speak. Or breathe. Or string two coherent thoughts together. And I don't mean any of that figuratively.I'm not talking about a guy being floored by the sight of a gorgeous woman - although, of course, Lydia is gorgeous beyond words. No, when I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker - my physical therapist - I was lying flat on my back in the ICU, high as a kite on painkillers, breathing on a ventilator, my bones as broken and splintered as my spirit. When I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker, she was a ray of light in the dark. Hope for the hopeless. A salve for my singed and battered soul. She said she'd been assigned to fix me. That she was there to bring me back to life. She said helping me was her calling. And then she touched me. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. She healed me.And I fell in love. But what I didn't know...what I couldn't possibly know...was that Lydia Decker needed fixing far more than I ever did.… (más)

Lydia Decker is a single mom of three. She lost her police officer husband in a work related shooting. It devastated her. But it’s three years later and she’s ready to at least start seeing other men, if not move on. Colby Morgan is a fireman. He’s injured in the line of duty and Lydia ends up being his physical therapist. For Colby, it’s love at first sight. She brings to mind memories of his teenage obsession with Beyoncé. Lydia is also a bit smitten with Colby. But she has to wonder if she’s ready to move on, especially with another first responder.

Lydia and Colby had an amazing and explosive relationship. I loved watching them fall straight into love and then navigate the getting to know you process. Colby has an amazing family, all of whom have their own books, even best friend Zander, who is an honorary Morgan. Kat’s story is in a separate series. And other characters, like music mogul Reed Rivers and Kat’s BIL Jonas, also appear in other series by this author. So the whole world is sort of connected. I read the love/hate duo previously and that one was about a band managed by Reed. So no direct correlation to this Morgan brothers series, but still connected through characters. I like having that reference.

But one thing I did not like about this book was that it was too much just about everything. It was a little too good. A little too sweet. It started off tragically telling the backstory of Lydia and how she lost her husband. But after that, everything was pretty much sunshine and roses. The couple had little spats here and there, but it was nothing dramatic. They didn’t really have any drama. What they did a lot of is sex. A lot of it. I like my romances spicy, and it was a bit too much sex even for me. There was also a lot of “locker room” talk between all the brothers. A lot of boy speak. A lot of nicknames. It was just a bit too much of it. Some is funny. But too much was kind of annoying.

I think I mostly enjoyed the way Lydia and her children were integrated into the Morgan family. I love the way Colby became a father figure to them and then a father. It was very sweet seeing him interact with them.

Overall, I actually liked this book, but I think I’m gonna need a break before getting to any of the others in the series and just hope and pray that they calm down a bit on the “too muchness” ( )

Oh my dear heart! This book. *sigh* I love Colby, I have from the outset. He is the perfect man, in theory. He has his demons but he also has his crazy whacked out, lovable, and loud family to help him through. Lydia is a super strong heroine, she has what it takes to deal with Colby, but she has issues of her own. This book cracked me up, it made me cry, and it gave me warm and tingly feelings. There are Beyonce references, Seinfeld references, more crazy behavior and good old fashion love. Do yourself a favor, read this book, you won't be sorry. Told in dual pov. ( )

“Are you riding a purple unicorn down a rainbow highway, honey?”
-----------

There are five hearts on the line here: yours, Lydia’s, and those three kids’. If anyone’s heart is going to get broken, then be the Morgan man we’ve raised you to be and make sure the only heart that gets broken is yours.
----------

I love you, Lydia. At some point, you’re going to have to figure out how to take a leap of faith. Because love doesn’t come tied up in a nice little box with a ribbon around it. Love is messy and scary and full of risk. Love is risk. It’s walking on a tightrope between skyscrapers. It’s being shot out of a cannon and jumping out an airplane at thirty thousand feet and you trusting your parachute will open. And, sometimes, love is watching the one you love walk out the door and knowing he might never come home again because it’s who he is—but you’re willing to love him anyway.
----------
Ti amo, Lydia.
