Hamster always wanted to be a firefighter but he did not have the usual qualities that make-up a great firefighter. He was not big or strong enough to do what most firefighters do. Hamsters friend, the Snake, encouraged Hamster to give firefighting a try anyway. Will Hamster make the cut?
After reading this story to my class, they commented on the theme of not giving up and being anything you want to be if you are willing to struggle for it. I loved that Hamster found his place in firefighting without having to change who he was. Kids need to know they can be themselves and still live their dreams. Thank you, Andrew Root, for writing an inspirational book for our kids. A must read and purchase for home, classroom, and school libraries. ( )
