A longtime Quaker Zionist, Steve Chase wonders if a just and peaceful future for Palestinians depends on nonviolent international pressure directed at the State of Israel through boycotts, divestment, and sanctions seeking full compliance with international law and universal human rights. This pamphlet briefly describes Palestinian and Zionist/Israeli history since the late nineteenth century, the development of the BDS movement and Quaker response to it, and what led Steve Chase's perspective to shift over time. In this pamphlet applying Quaker discernment to a social justice issue, Chase writes a clear and interesting account of how his understanding and opinions on the Israel and Palestine situation have changed, as he studied the history and listened to Israelis and Palestinians. He has come to support the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a nonviolent, ethical, and practical way to break the current impasse of violence, injustice, fear and despair in Israel and Palestine. He explains carefully what the BDS campaign is and why he hopes Friends will participate in this nonviolent campaign for justice, since he sees it as in the Quaker way of engagement in struggles for human rights and peace. Chase gives us an articulate, thoughtful, informative, and Quakerly argument in favor of support for the controversial Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
