Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:

The moment she spies the rugged hunk in the faded jeans at the airport, Ellen knows she should run for cover. Instead, she throws caution to the wind and plunges into a sizzling affair with the gorgeous cop. Between romantic dinners, sensual limo rides, and a perfect night of passion, Ellen is living every woman's fantasy. Until she's caught in the sights of a deranged stalker, and the divorced single mother is suddenly turning to N.Y.P.D. detective Sam Schaefer for her very survival....

Soon Sam's taking a bullet meant for Ellen, and racing against time to stop a killer from hitting his target. Keeping Ellen safe will take everything he's got. Earning her trust could be a mission impossible, as two wary hearts team up for a summer they'll never forget--and a sizzling adventure that could get them both killed...or give them everything they've ever wanted.

What a delightful romance. The first half of the novel, in the limo, is sheer romantic fun. It's quite exaggerated of course, particularly how delectable Sam is, and how gorgeous Ellen is, but also in the sudden drama of the second half when there's a bomb blast and so forth - the contrast is a little too much. I would have been impressed if Suzanne Brockmann, whose romantic suspense Troubleshooters series I love, had written a purely romantic comedy, as was indicated it might be through the first half. Still, none of these faults matter too much. ( )

3.5 starsThis was one of Suzanne Brockmann's earlier category books which was reissued a few years back. Kathe Mazur does a good job narrating and I appreciated her slight New York accent for Sam and how she brought out his easygoing charm with her narration. It's a younger man/older woman story with limo sex! ( )

Fluff - but really well-written fluff. It reminded me why I like Suzanne Brockmann so much. Summer romance turns real - the cop and the teacher, overwhelming lust, a stalker (of somebody - neat twist), he gets hurt and she admits what she feels. Utterly standard tropes - but the characters are solid and real, the situations make sense, the dialog and descriptions convey what's going on perfectly. Great fluff. I'd like to read more about Ellen and Sam - maybe Lydia's story, and Jamie's? Or Bob. Or almost anything. As far as I know this is a one-shot, but they're real people to me and I'd love to meet them again. ( )

The actual story was really nothing new, but what kept me reading were the characters, themselves. The gorgeous cop, Sam, teacher/actor and divorceee Ellen and her two children. Throw in a little suspense and it made for a good read. ( )
