Writer, editor, and avid outdoorswoman Becky Lomax offers an insider's perspective on Glacier National Park, where she once worked shredding lettuce in the kitchen so she could hike nearly 300 miles of park trails during her free time. From hiking through multi-color meadows filled with wildflowers to observing the Sperry Glacier, a victim of global warming that will vanish in less than two decades, Lomax knows the best ways to enjoy the park's one million acres of wilderness. She also includes unique trip strategies for travelers with specific interests and restrictions, including a Wildlife-Watching tour and a whirlwind One Day in Glacier tour. Whether it's biking up Going-to-the-Sun Road or watching a grizzly forage in huckleberries,Moon Glacier National Park gives travelers the tools they need to create a more personal and memorable experience. However, as is to be expected with most guidebooks, some details are no longer accurate.
The Mule Shoe Outfitters is more expense then the guidebook states, and, they longer exist. Swan Mountain Outfitters was created by combining the business activities of Swan Mountain Ranch and Lion Creek Outfitters, and Mule Shoe Outfitters.
Cecil Noble, a fourth generation Montanan and pioneer in the outfitting industry founded Lion Creek Outfitters. Since 1972, Lion Creek Outfitters has been offering guided elk hunting, deer hunting, and summer horse pack/fishing trips in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and its surrounding areas of the Flathead National Forest and the scenic Swan Valley of northwest Montana.
In 1999, Pat and Joanne Tabor purchased Swan Mountain Ranch and in 2005 Lion Creek Outfitters and merged the operations to form Swan Mountain Outfitters. In 2006, Swan Mountain Outfitters purchased Mule Shoe Outfitters securing the exclusive contract to provide horseback rides in Glacier National Park. Swan Mountain Outfitters has emerged as the largest horseback service provider in Northwest Montana.
The work has sufficient detail to be an effective guide for the traveler. I used it while touring the area and found it to be reliable.
