In the Virginia countryside outside of Washington, DC, Addy Wentworth was on a mission to make a new life for herself. When the opportunity arose, she settled in horse and wine country. Experiencing more than her fair share of tragedy and loss, she had plans for her future, one where failure wasn't an option. And not just because people and cows were counting on her. She'd poured everything she had into her struggling vineyard, because once she's in, she's all in. After giving himself wholly to the job for ten years, Crew Vega was done. He'd fulfilled his commitment, done his duty, gone above and beyond to settle the score. And the score was high. All he had to do was train his replacements and he'd be out for good. He had a plan, one that didn't include getting involved with his new neighbor, a woman who not only kept cows for pets, but treasured her employees as family, and understood him better than anyone ever had before. But when he learned a high level CIA target being investigated for treason was keeping tabs on her? No, he never planned on that. And like everything Crew Vega did in life, when he goes in, he's all in.… (más)

DNF: I bailed at 16% when she goes shopping. I bail when I Don't Care. He's so inscrutable that I feel no empathy for him, and she's supposed to be business savvy but doesn't feel any different from any old heroine. Again, no empathy. Glowing reviews make me suspicious those were shill reviewers, honestly. The premise is buried under minutiae without enough for a reader to connect to. Also, it felt very much like he was going to have to rescue her, and I am not here for that. ( )

Came soooooo close to being a 5 star read.

Fast paced with bits of quirky humor that makes you smile.

Reasons it didn't make it.
1. Couple of areas that could have been More suspenseful but wasn't played on.
2. Towards the 80% mark when 'Strange' things were happening to Addy and her vineyard neither she nor her friends/employee's ever mention a certain someone that had been a problem throughout the story. I really found that odd and out of character for all of them.
3. Her doing an internet search for certain things also seemed out of character for her. She comes off super smart and savvy throughout the story then does something like that....???
4. The steamy scenes were decent. I liked them. But they seemed a bit on the 'light' side. Yet alluded to something More. I wanted that More.

All in all it was a GREAT read. I loved the mystery, suspense and all the characters.
In fact, I loved this so much that I have downloaded the 2nd book.

A huge thank you to Coco.V for recommending this series.
You were right. I loved it! ( )

It's a good story. Addy and Crew.
The beginning is quite atmospheric, she owns a lot of land and has a vineyard business. There is a large group of friends who appear often and have massive potential for future story lines.
Addy has almost family in her employees and Crew has a group of men he works with and some he is training.
I thought some of the plot was obvious but I liked that Crew was all in, no cheating, no on/off/on again, once he made a move he was committed.
Abby was no push over despite Crew being Alpha bossy type, she pushed back, sometimes winning sometimes not.
Plenty of teasers about Grady and Maya who are in the next book. Maya is obviously on the run and Grady is messed up and is not sure where he is going in life.
A good start to the series, at times it felt like a little bit copy cat to Kristen Ashley but overall a good book, quite long. ( )

In typical fashion the author has created another great start to a new series. This was similar and yet different from the Carpino series. I miss the family aspects that was present in the story. I'm hoping that with the next story it starts to get that.

I enjoyed Addy and Crew. They had great chemistry. The secondary characters were great too. I especially liked Clara. ( )
