I'm glad I'm done reading this. (Not an ideal way to finish a book.) It isn't terrible. It's better than the last free book I finished. Parts of it are quite good. In fact, it has one of the few hetero sex scenes I actually liked. Claire is a good character, sex-positive, genuinely caring and accepting without being weak, and she deals with her insecurities pretty well. Theo is a good character; broken family but nieces, terrible childhood he's ignored and run from. His actions spoke to his character. It's the kind of story you read for characters, because you can guess the plot, which is fine. Right up until Theo thinks himself out of being a puppet to his past traumas and coping mechanisms and is ta-da able to commit to Claire.

Well, that's cute, but that's not how brains work. He's spent decades running, avoiding, but he can just ponder for a few days and figure it all out? In (and this is where I warn you) boring detail. Because we've seen it all already, yet the author runs it all by us again. In case we forgot. (It's not that long a book.)

Part of the last chapter is funny and cute. But so predictable as to be boring. So, I'm glad I'm done. I'm glad this book was free. I'm glad I met Claire. I'm glad I got to read that scene in the living room. :) ( )
