Strawberry Thanksgiving introduces us to some of the celebrations that Native Americans celebrate. Adam is having trouble getting along with his sister Holly. Adam is always blaming Holly for his problems and is kind of mean to her. When he hears his Grandmother tell the story about Strawberry Thanksgiving he learns to forgive and be kind to his sister.
Personal Reaction:
I found the meaning behind this story very interesting. I actually have never heard of this celebration. Native American culture is interesting and I enjoyed this book.
Extension Ideas:
1. Divide students into groups and share the traditions that their family has for Thanksgiving. Will share with class in open discussion.
2. Read the story to the class and pass out strawberries to each student. After we will discuss the value and/ or legend being taught.
