The first thing that I liked was that this book is part of a series called "Religions of the World." If children found this book interesting, they could look at others set up the same way that this was, which is always a plus. Another thing that I liked was the way that the text was organized. The chapters break Buddhism into history, beliefs, practices, Monks, Buddhism and society, and its current issues/role. The flow from one topic is done very well. Each chapter builds off of the previous one, but can still be read individually. Keeping with the organization theme, I really liked how the text was organized. Every chapter has subheadings that are bolded and easy to find. Also, I like how there is a picture on almost every page. If there is not a picture, there is a text box with extra information on something that is being talked about in the main text. The set up allows the author to break up any parts that can come across as monotonous or long without losing the reader's interest. For example, on subheading is about how Buddhism spread throughout Asia, the text mentions that the son of Emperor Ashoka brought Buddhism to Sri Lanka. Next to this section is a picture of a lion statue with a caption of its significance as well as a blurb about the Emperor previously mentioned. Another plus for this book was the extra textual features. There is a glossary, which is always helpful, a time line, and additional resources in the back of the book. If I ever need to write a paper on this religion, this is a book that I would choose. The overall idea of this book is to teach the reader about Buddhism. ( ) sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Each book in the enlightening" This Is My Faith" series features true-life photographs and interviews with a child who talks about his or her faith and discusses its role in the life of the family. Boys and girls speak of the rituals, obligations, and joys that are basic to their religions. The children in these books come from many different cultures and countries around the world, thus reflecting the global nature of humanity's religious impulse. Photos show children in their daily activities, and with families and friends at religious services and festivals. Books are available in both paperback and hardcover editions. Although Buddhism originated in India, it soon spread to Tibet, China, Japan, and most recently to the West. A child talks about Buddhism's contemplative nature, and about the festivals and rituals practiced by various Buddhist sects. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
