Love it!

I want a Jory and Dean of my own. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. ( )

4.5 HEARTS--

Relax...I am Jory virgin, no longer.

I have already considered myself part of the Calmes guild, so to say. I love her words, don't care what anyone else has to say about it. She's my crack and I will huff it whenever I want. Her words give me just what I want: hot alpha vs. a matyr-ish lovable, less dominant man. It's like coming back for your favorite treat each time.

Now I understand the Jory references to all that come after.

Now I get the Sam Kage comparisons.

I've read the prototypes. Bathed in the Calmesian springs of yummy manhandling, twirled in the peacoat wearing, I see the light and everything is coming out Jory.

How in the world did he get so far in life? It must be pure luck because he's just too fearless to be good for his health. He doesn't follow any logical rules, doesn't think when it comes to the important life threatening stuff and yet still comes out with his life. But there's something saint like and magical about him that drew me to him. He's a magnet, damn it. I'm not going to feel his neck and touch his face like everyone else in the book did (that's hella creepy and if anyone did that to me, they're looking to get crotch punched) Seriously, what's up with that? Random people just touched him like he was the second coming. But I'm drawn to the foolhardy twink. He should not be alive with all the silly yet dangerous situations he gets himself in. Jory...he's just so Jory. He witnesses a murder and instead of being traumatized or fearful of retaliation, he goes to a club and sucks a dick. Why not? And you get alpha detective Sam Kage, who is straight and kind of a jerk to Jory in the beginning, falling under Jory's spell. Throwing Jory against surfaces, grabbing and just being so handsy...that I liked. I was in a mood for an alpha main character who was possessive and borderline obsessive and I got that with Sam. But his struggle with his attraction to Jory, an out and proud gay man...that was real. And that is what sold me on this story. Behold, the mighty powers of Jory. I'm not rehashing the plot because this is MM romance staple, right here. If you haven't read it, you totally should.
I usually dislike following the same couple in a series but I will be following these two, for however many times they break up and get back together again. Both are martyrs, who think it's better to be apart to save the other at different points in their relationship. Both are foolish for one another. I have a feeling this is going to be one long and arduous fucking ride to their HEA. Book #7 is going be released later this year and now I get why Mary Calmes loves Jory because there's something about him. Fuck it. I'm cosigning with this series. Long like Jory and Sam. May these two crazy kids finally get it together. " ( )

There were so many things about this book that drove me crazy. SO. MANY. THINGS. And still I want to read the next book. Sigh. ( )

Jory is a young guy, living his busy life in the city when he is asked to fetch the dog from a friend’s house who has left her husband because he abused her. But at the house Jory is witness of a murder! Although the police wants him to get protective custody he wants to go on with his life, not believing that he is in any real danger. Well, his biggest confrontation is with detective Sam Kage, an apparently straight cop who keeps turning up in Jory’s life. And along the line of the detective story those two men get a relationship. In the course of events Jory’s life is threatened more and more of the with a big showdown at the end of book 2.
That’s great and wonderful, but… (isn’t there always?) why do these people have to be larger than life? Why is Jory the über-pretty boy and Sam this drop-dead gorgeous hunk of a macho man? And Jory’s brother is wonderfully rich as are some other persons. Where’s reality? Although the plot is quite believable (never mind some flaws) this is really annoying.
Putting a book together that consists of several parts, it would have been great to do some post-editing. Now you have a huge number of recaps because some instalment of the former book ended but now it’s just superfluous information that could have been skipped. And some other times I would have loved to get a reminder who a person was I first learnt about some 200 pages ago. ( )

I think my read of this proves I need a break from MM. This book has shades of the Cut and Run series, the Adrien English mysteries, Acrobat, Kevin Connor mysteries and more that I have recently finished. They are starting to blur together.

While I am a sucker for Jory and Sam's moments together, these fleeting moments of joy are surrounding by annoyances:

Jory is beautiful. No, not just good-looking or gorgeous. He's effing PERFECT. And everyone, literally everyone, that encounters him tells him so. Might have been interesting if that was this character's currency, how he got through life, but you can't focus on that because everyone else is gorgeous!

Sam is a tall, gorgeous he-man that fills out his jeans spectacularly.

Dane is so gorgeous that all 7 female staff in his office are so in lust with him that he has to fire one.

They go out every night for dinner or to clubs. EVERY night and they stay out to midnight, 2 a.m......and then go to work faithfully the next day.

As Jory goes out to a different club or restaurant every night, Sam magically finds him no matter where he is. That is some gaydar!!

The perfect family members: all characters have scads of fun, interesting, and understanding family members.

The clues about the villain are hardly hidden. You are told in a loud stage whisper, "it's this guy!".

There wasn't enough here to set this book apart from a dozen others I have read. ( )
