I really enjoyed this book! It's set in an amazing place - the Inca Trail leading to Machu Picchu in Peru - and the descriptions of both the trail and the local culture were incredibly detailed. The author really did her homework setting up this book! I really enjoyed reading a book set somewhere else other than North America (or Australia, or Western Europe), especially since it was a culture that isn't very accepting of homosexuality, particularly in the mountainous region that both Alberto and Benicio call home. The romance between Alberto and Benicio was a pretty slow build - they started off as coworkers, then moved to friends, and then moved to something else. There were some "missed communications" in this book, but considering that they are in Peru and talking about one's homosexuality in such a situation is probably very difficult, it felt realistic. There are some pretty detailed and involved sex scenes in the last third of the book, which I didn't mind. ;) Altogether, this was something "different" that definitely stands out in the m/m genre. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes history or a book set in a unique place. ( )
