Much fun to read and an interesting launching point into a conversation about identity and labels. ( ) Warren would like to clarify that he is a Koala not a bear. He feels slighted and misunderstood. Will he ever be able to make everyone understand that he is not a bear! The varied font sizes fun simple illustrations and humorous rhyming text make this a great story time read aloud for Pre-K. The font sizes foster print awareness the rhyming text fosters phonological awareness and the silly storyline encourages discussion. Warren the koala objects strongly to being described as a bear in this entertaining picture-book from Down Under, setting out the history of how his species came to be so erroneously named. The rhyming text follows his complaints, and concludes with a scenario in which his fellow Aussie animals label him a bear regardless... Like so many of author/artist Aaron Blabey's picture-books, Don't Call Me Bear! pairs an entertaining tale told in rhyme with bright, colorful artwork that perfectly captures the madcap sense of humor to be found in the text. Unlike most of Blabey's other books, this one is also educational, offering a basic explanation of how koalas came to be called bears, and discussing the marsupial family to which they belong. Recommended to young animal lovers, and to fans of Aaron Blabey. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Warren, a feisty little koala, is frustrated and annoyed because since the days of Captain Cook, people have called koalas bears, and he really wants everyone to know that koalas are NOT BEARS--unfortunately even Kangaroo and Platypus are not impressed by his argument.
