Wedding bells are ringing--and tempers are flaring--as the Take the Fall series continues in this sweet, sexy novel from the bestselling author of After We Fall ("This beautiful story kept me transfixed until the very end."--Krista Lakes). As a hardworking, hard-partying firefighter, Hayden Walker values his career and his freedom. But as the eldest son of a U.S. senator, he agreed long ago to follow in his father's footsteps and run for office, and that means settling down and marrying the picture-perfect wife. Hayden just isn't ready for that sort of commitment . . . not with women like beautiful, curvy Saylor Dean--the naughty bridesmaid he recognizes the morning after his buddy's wedding--tempting Hayden to stay single forever. The unwanted love child of a well-known politician, Saylor has always felt isolated and alone, her only solace the animal shelter she runs in Forrestville. Then she meets Hayden at her best friend's wedding. During their impulsive and unforgettable night together, Saylor feels desired like never before--only to wake up and find that Hayden doesn't remember his drunken proposal, or their hasty marriage, or her. But when the truth comes out, Saylor finds it's a lot harder to fall out of love than in love. Praise for Hard to Fall "Marquita Valentine strikes gold with relatable and quirky characters in Hard to Fall. She will have you fanning yourself and then reaching for the tissues as you cry from laughter. Hard to Fall is a fun read, full of steam and drool-worthy moments. How can you not fall in love with an alpha male who fights fires? Yum!"--Meghan Quinn, author of Stroked "Five sweet and steamy stars! With quirky yet relatable characters, a sexy love story, and a compelling plot that keeps you entertained the entire way through, Marquita Valentine has done it again!"--Stacey Lynn, author of the Fireside series "Sweet and quirky heroine and a steamy hero tangled together in a complicated romance readers will root for!"--Caisey Quinn, author of the Neon Dreams series "With a hot fireman hero and a funny heroine I could be BFFs with, Hard to Fall kept me grinning and swooning from beginning to end!"--USA Today bestselling author Cindi Madsen "Hard to Fall pushed all my buttons in just the right way. Sweet, funny and best of all . . . so damn hot."--New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett "Hard to Fall combines family, friendships, and politics into an endearing, fun, and hot package."--Harlequin Junkie "I have loved every book in this series and Marquita Valentine has just added another winner! REVIEW:  HARD TO FALL (TAKE THE FALL)  BY MARQUITA VALENTINE

Hard to Fall by Marquita ValentineMy rating: 5 of 5 starsMarquita Valentine, made it easy to fall in love with Hayden and Saylor. The hard part was saying goodbye to these extraordinary characters. Hayden is a bad boy masquerading as the dutiful son of a powerful politician. Saylor, has lived as a source of secrecy and shame. An accident of birth has left her insecure, isolated and searching for a place to belong. Can the bad boy with the perfect life be the answer to her prayers? Will the totally wrong woman end up saving Hayden from himself? I received an ARC of Hard to Fall in exchange for an honest review. The badge of a gifted author is the ability to allow the reader to get carried away and become a part of the journey. Ms. Valentine succeeded and created a well written story. A powerhouse of emotion that inspires and entertains. 5 .View all my reviews

Another great addition to the Take the Fall series by Marquita Valentine. Even though this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand alone without feeling like you are lost & missing the back story.

Hayden & Sawyer meet when they are in a wedding together & are instantly attracted. The groom's family flies everyone to Mexico for a second reception after the first one. The next thing you know, Hayden wakes up alone & goes to the kitchen for coffee & barely remembers Sawyer. The tequila must have been flowing like water!! So Sawyer fell for Hayden during their time together but Hayden doesn't remember the time they spent together. Will he ever remember what they did? Does Sawyer think that it will just go away?

Sawyer is the sweet, quirky, geeky result of an affair between an actress & a political powerhouse. Her father has never acknowledged her. Between that & her mother's fame, Sawyer has always felt alone & isolated. Until Hayden, no one had ever really accepted her for herself.

Hayden is a hard working, playboy firefighter that just made Captain. It doesn't matter though, thanks to an agreement he made with his father, U.S. Senator Walker. Hayden agreed to run for office in the future to get his dad off his back. Unfortunately, the future is now & Hayden can't find a way out of it.

These characters find a way into your heart. I was ready to dislike Hayden after the first couple of chapters but you begin to see the hurt & pain hidden in his heart for the fact his father just won't accept him as is. I felt so sorry for Sawyer for the way she felt but I loved that Marquita didn't have her changing her ways to just gain acceptance. Both characters were tough in their way but tender & sweet also. The different points of view were a little difficult for me at the beginning but after a while, it just flowed. The plot moved quickly with twists in it that weren't expected. This is more than your simple tender love story.

I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion. ( )

Hard to Fall by Marquita Valentine
Book #4: Take the Fall Series

My Rating: 4/5 stars
My Review:

***REVIEW IS SLIGHTLY SPOILERISH***

Hot firefighter who loves to talk dirty and thoroughly satisfy his partner and a nerdy, quirky chick who saves hurt and abandoned animals and has a Star Wars obsession?? HELL YES!!! Sign me up!!!

Saylor Dean is about as quirky and nerdy and weird as they come. Though hardly anyone knows, she is a multimillionaire thanks to the guilt money given to her on a regular basis by her totally absentee yet totally famous father. Her mother might be considered absentee if it weren’t for the fact she’s a famous movie star who adores her daughter and sees her every chance she gets. From most people’s perspective, Saylor has it made. She owns her own business, is financially free to do as she pleases, and has a small circle of valued and trusted friends. What Saylor doesn’t have and desperately wants is a true family of her very own.

Hayden Walker has no interest in drinking the Walker family Kool-Aid. He doesn’t want to be a politician, he has no desire to be a politician, and if his father doesn’t start listening soon, things are going to get ugly. In the meantime, Hayden is going to continue to serve his community as a top-notch firefighter and live his life as he sees fit. In what could only be described as a stunning bit of debauchery and life living, Hayden has one hell of a good time in Tijuana at his friend’s wedding reception. At least, he thinks he had a good time, he woke up naked and couldn’t remember anything 

Back in the real world, Hayden keeps running into Saylor and can’t seem to get the weird girl out of his head. She’s quirky and beautiful, always seems to say the wrong thing, and delights Hayden on every level. Though he’s never had to chase a girl before, Hayden finds he not only wants to chase Saylor but he wants to catch her and keep her. What Hayden doesn’t know, thanks to a truck load of alcohol is that he’s chasing his wife. Saylor, scared to death of Hayden’s reaction doesn’t readily share the news about their nuptials nor does she share her lineage. Turns out, both of those bits of information are going to be vital to the survival of her relationship with Hayden. If they both survive the impending storm, they may even learn to love one another.

The Bottom Line: You know what? Hard to Fall is really a fitting end to the Take the Fall series and I quite enjoyed this read. Saylor is just so delightfully weird that you really can’t help but love her. She is so awkward as to be almost unbelievable which makes her even more likeable. Hayden, on the other hand is relatively put together which makes him an excellent balance for Saylor. This read places a huge emphasis on family and what it means to be a family and those values sort of shine through both Saylor and Hayden. Their relationship certainly isn’t conventional by any means but it works for these two and works nicely with the overall plot. The ending gets wrapped up a bit too quickly and conveniently but other than that, this is another solid read from one of my favorite contemporary romance authors!! ( )
