The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts. Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he's called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team's coach-who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers' sexy, icy publicist-his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington. Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do-and saying hello again isn't much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal-really fast.… (más)

A super sweet, sexy, fun read. Leo and Georgia seemed well suited to each other and both were talented and competent (even though maybe the fraternization should have been addressed). I liked the secondary characters and how the other guys on the team weren't all meathead jock stereotypes, even the ones that looked like they were at first. I definitely wanted there to be more women, but I get that there are not a lot of them in pro sports. But it would have been nice to not have the cattiness towards the one other (very briefly mentioned) woman professional who wasn't Georgia or Becca. And I really wanted for Georgia and Becca to talk about something other than dudes and romantic relationships.

I would have liked to see more of the falling in love in the present, as opposed to it all being from their high school romance, but I did find it believable. I wanted for the sexual assault had been more directly addressed, especially since Georgia hadn't had a sexual partner since her attack. Overall, I enjoyed it and I'm more than intrigued by the teaser for [b: Hard Hitter |28869598|Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers #2)|Sarina Bowen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1466612763s/28869598.jpg|50874737].

I received a free copy of this book from Berkley Publishing Group through Goodreads Giveaways. ( )

I am reviewing this book based on an ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

Sarina Bowen is one of those authors whose books I know I will love before I even start them. This novel did not disappoint the story drew me in from the first and I was instantly intrigued by and rooting for the characters. Brooklyn Bruisers is a series for which I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. ( )

Second chance romance, sports themed. Good story. ( )

I go between a 3-4 here. Super entertaining but didn't quite tip the scales into a 4 star book for me.

Let's discuss the cover model. If I saw THAT in real life, I'd be terrified.

It's a second chance romance without too much focus/jealousy/issues from the "off" time. That was nice. It dealt with some serious emotional issues without getting bogged down. A sprinkle of humor, a great hero, a determined heroine and we have all the makings of a solid 3-3.5.

I just missed a certain magic. ( )

It was really cute, but it didn't capture my attention like other Sarina's books did before. ( )
