A lovely tribute and an inspiring story -- particularly liked learning about Haring's philanthropic endeavors and his work with children. Feeling the need to get back to drawing.... ( )

This picture book biography tells the story of Keith Haring's love of art and his boundless generosity in sharing that art with the world. The story is told in an inviting way that will appeal to young children, particularly elementary school-age children. Being written by one of Haring's sisters, it is heartfelt as well as informative. The illustrations are beautifully done, expressive of Haring's artistic style while maintaining a unique look. Backmatter includes photographs of Haring, his family, and a sampling of his artworks. There is also a page spread that includes more details about Haring's life and work. ( )

This book explores the early life and art of Keith Haring. The book was lovingly written by his sister and is illustrated, in my opinion, with his artistic style in mind. Haring simply loved to draw from young and believed art is for everyone. He seldom took payments for is art, giving it to notable causes instead. He once got lots of money from his art being in a gallery and decided to donate it to hungry children. Haring was not only an artist, but a humanitarian and his message and life teaches kids that no matter what it is you love, do it BECAUSE you love. I hope this book inspires young artists to create no matter what, always keep a positive outlook on what and where you create, and simply create for the sake of creating and great things will naturally follow you! Haring was an amazing artist and an amazing person which is a great combo. ( )
