After being forced to check out three Hank the Cowdog print versions in a row, I was so pleased to be able to check out an audio copy of THE CASE OF THE TWISTED KITTY. At last I could really hear the voices and sound effects instead of having to imagine them. I love the rocket engine effect when Hank and Drover are running full out! This time there was a coiled spring effect when Hank sprang into action. It's a cold day in January, and we get to hear a howling wind for part of the book.

Pete the Barncat manages to trick Hank yet again. I laughed aloud at Hank's description of an enraged Sally May when Pete's plot succeeds. It leads to a funny scene with Hank and Pete, then Hank and Drover.

Once Hank realizes that he's been had, he lusts for revenge. This time he tries a new tactic that works out even better than he could have hoped. Of course, it would eliminate a lot of sure-fire plot standards in future books if he keeps it up. Love the way Mr. Erickson solved that problem. It was a great character-illumination deal, and Pete's use of a classic movie line was icing on the cake!

Anyone who has ever been driven crazy by someone or something should be able to sympathize with Hank as he sings, 'I've Had It Up to Here'.

I'm not a mother, but I thought of my mom as Sally May sings, 'What Is a Woman to Do?'. I think all dads and kids should listen to that mom's point of view.

I heartily recommend this entry in the Hank the Cowdog series for cat and dog lovers alike. ( )
