I have long regarded Full Metal Jacket as probably one of the most insightful films about the induction into military service and the horrors of war ever made. Of the three movies in this triple feature, it still stands out, and is highly recommended.
As a teenage boy I was consumed by hard science fiction, of which 2001 a Space Odyssey is regarded as the classic of the genera. That said, I felt it has aged considerably since I last watched it. Whilst it remains a classic, if one were to be honest, the story doesn't grab me as it once did, and the ending now leaves me simply bored and baffled, rather than wondering.
I had never seen Clockwork Orange before, nor had I read the book, and knew nothing about it beyond the blurb on the box. I have to admit I found it a bit confronting, brutal and uncomfortable, and as much as you don't want to watch it in places something compels you to stay through to the end.
In summary, if you have never seen these films, or haven't watched them in a long time, this little collection presents good value for money.
