In this book, Uncle Booker T. teaches Derrick how to play the harmonica day-after-day, and Derrick cannot keep his hands off of the harmonica. Uncle Booker T. and Derrick travel around the neighborhood playing music for their community and it brings everyone together.

A boy named Derrick is starting his summer break and the old man Uncle Booker T. promised to teach him how to play the harmonica. Derrick wants so much to play as well as Uncle Booker T but it is taking too long for him, Uncle Booker T tells him to slow down and don't rush he will get there. Finally at the end Derrick is able to feel the music in his heart and play amazing music.
