Opening with a comfy chair, the narrator of this meta-fictional picture-book invites the reader - represented by a girl and her father - into a book, where they experience the textured world of various objects and creatures. From a wooly sock to a mossy trail, everything encountered here has a descriptor meant to make the reader's experience of it richer and more real.

Truthfully, I found Have a Look, Says a Book. somewhat unsuccessful as a picture-book. There isn't really a story, as such, which can sometimes work quite well, but somehow doesn't here. The progression of objects/creatures feels rather random and disjointed, and the rhyming text is rather awkward. I probably would have given this two stars, but I did enjoy the artwork by Kevin Hawkes, so I raised my rating accordingly. I'm not really sure to whom I'd recommend this one, although Hawkes fans might want to take a look... ( )
